A off-duty police officer who was drunk crashed into a building killing one woman and injuring another. At 2:42 am the officer was driving eastbound on the 1700 block of West 87th Street and tried to turn left onto Wood Street. According to Chicago Police, another car tried to turn left onto Wood at the same time and cut the officer off. The officer then made a sharp turn to avoid the car. His car then jumped the curb and crashed into a building and hit two women, killing one and injuring another.
35 yr-old Marquita N. Reed was pinned underneath the car and sucummed to her injuries. According to the police and the Cook County medical examiner's, she was pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The other woman is in stable condition with a leg injury . The officer, whose name has not been released, had blood alcohol content of .083, according to police. That's just over the legal limit of .08. According to witnesses, Investigators removed beer from the officers trunk. Charges against the officer are pending. God Bless Marquita Reed and her family!
