Mexican drug kingpin, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, was sentenced to life in prison today! Not only did he receive life he also received an additional 30 yrs for 10 counts ranging from engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise and drug trafficking charges, among others. The 62 yr old Guzman was also ordered to forfeit his fortune of $12.6 billion dollars. According to Guzman, he wasn't given a fair trial.
“All he wanted, and he said to me from day one, ‘I just want a fair trial. You tell me that I can get justice here, I just want a fair trial.’ And at the end of the day, we like to pretend that it was justice—it was not justice. You can’t have a situation where jurors are running around lying, lying to a judge, lying to a judge about what they were doing and learning about allegations that were purposely kept out by the government,” said his defense attorney Jeffrey Lichtman. Rumors of a possible appeal are swirling. After sentencing Guzman will be turned over to the super max federal facility in Florence, Colorado.
