The Cook County Pop tax is heading to be repeal! There was a vote that took place on Tuesday which ended with 15-1. County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who pushed hard to keep the pop tax, conceded defeat. This is a big win for all soda companies and local stores!
According to the Chicago Tribune, the pop tax won’t go away until December 1, 2017. The penny-an-ounce soda tax is one of shortest-lived in Illinois history at four months.
