New details on the criminal charges against New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs have been revealed.

Diggs, 32, is reportedly facing a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge for an alleged assault incident reported on December 2, a police report obtained by WCVB. A woman who said she was working as a private chef filed a report on December 16 claiming Diggs entered her unlocked bedroom and allegedly smacked her across the face after discussing money owed to her.

The woman said she attempted to push Diggs away, at which point he allegedly choked her with his elbow around her neck and later threw her on the bed. The woman initially opted not to file charges on December 16 before deciding otherwise on December 22, authorities confirmed.

Diggs' attorney, Michael DiStefano, made a remote appearance in Dedham District Court on Tuesday (December 30) and sought to have the police report connected with the incident impounded, claiming the details should've remained sealed and confirmed that his client had already made a financial offer to resolve the issue with the alleged victim.

“As we speak, they’re working to come to an agreement on that,” DiStefano said via Boston 25 News.

The judge confirmed that she'd take the request under advisement and would make a ruling "shortly." Diggs is scheduled to appear for an arraignment on January 23, two days prior to the AFC Championship Game, though the judge agreed to consider a request to extend his arraignment date to March.

A spokesperson for the Patriots confirmed that the team was aware of the allegations against Diggs and would gather more information.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon,” the statement reads via Boston 25 News. “We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler, first-team All-Pro (2020) and second-team All Pro (2022) is in his first season with the Patriots, having signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal this past offseason, following stints with the Minnesota Vikings (2015-2019), Buffalo Bills (2020-2023) and Houston Texans (2024). The former Maryland standout is also the father to a child shared with rapper Cardi B born last month, as well as two daughters and another son through past relationships.
