Why is this big? Because Miles Morales is the first, and only, black character to play Spiderman in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Ok if you're not familiar with what this all means, let me give you a very simple breakdown. We all know the original Marvel comic characters like Peter Parker (Spiderman) but in the early 2000's Marvel decided they needed to re-write a lot of character to modernize them. In comes the Marvel Ultimate Universe where the revamped characters would live in and their new stories told. Miles Morales is a Afro-Latino character based in NYC and after Peter Parker dies, he gets bit and becomes the new Spiderman. This was HUGE to see someone of color take up one of the most iconic character roles and why this animated feature is a big deal. How long before we see a live action Miles Morales? Hopefully soon!
