Ruth Bader Ginsburg Discharged From Hospital

Ruth bader ginsburg discharged from hospital

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is recuperating at home after she was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday according to a court spokesperson.

"Justice Ginsburg was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is recuperating at home," said Kathy Arberg, public information officer for the Supreme Court in an email obtained by CNN.

Last week, the 85-year-old Ginsburg underwent surgery to remove two cancerous nodules from her left lung at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital in New York City. A post-surgery scan revealed no evidence of any remaining disease, the court said in a release about the procedure.

The two nodules in Ginsburg's lower left lung were discovered while undergoing tests performed by doctors at George Washington University Hospital to treat rib fractures she sustained in a fall last month.

This was Ginsburg's third bout with cancer since she joined the court in 1993. In 1999, Ginsburg had to undergo surgery for colorectal cancer. In 2009, she was treated for early stages of pancreatic cancer.

Ginsburg has served on the nation's highest court for 25 years after being appointed by Bill Clinton in 1993.

The court is not scheduled to be back in session until Jan. 4.
