Guess it’s safe to say you won’t catch me at nobody’s barbecue this Memorial Day, I’m
checking all meats! An Illinois company issued a recall for over 62,000 pounds of beef right
before one of the nation’s biggest grilling days, Memorial Day, over concerns about E. coli
contamination. Aurora Packing Company, which shipped questionable products nationwide, said
the recall is in response to random sample testing by the USDA’s Food and Safety Inspection
Service. While the company said it has not received any reports of reactions to the contaminated
products. As of recent reports, E. coli outbreak has now sickened nearly 200 people across 10
states. Of those sickened, 28 have been hospitalized, with the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) linking the illness to ground beef from “many sources.” People in Florida,
Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky have
reported illnesses.
