Five years ago today marks the day that, 12 yr old Tamir Rice was shot to death by Cleveland Police! He would be 17 this year. The police officer who killed Tamir, Timothey Loehmann, was not charged with his death. Loehmann was fired in 2017 from the police department after they uncovered he lied on his application. He has since been hired by a small police department in a Ohio village. The Bellaire Police department's chief Richard Flanagan said he had no concerns hiring Loehmann. “He was cleared of any and all wrongdoing." He also added that it was unfair to “crucify” the officer. “It’s over and done with.”
In a recent interview with Tamir's mother, Samaria Rice, she was asked what her reaction was to the news. She said she had a visceral response to the news — “a feeling of numbness through my whole body” — and questioned the decision. Let us continue to lift this family up in prayer and never forget Tamir.
