Rainbow Push Coalition Townhall Meeting

Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Rev. James T. Meeks and 1000 Churches Connected to host a virtual Zoom town hall meeting Monday, May 18th, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. urging ministers to shelter in place and pray at home.

The town hall meeting can be seen live on Facebook and WJYS (Channel 62) #FAITHINCRISIS

Questions will be taken from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Facebook live.

Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Rev. James T. Meeks, pastor of the Salem Baptist Church, 100 Churches Connected, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other ministers both city and suburban across denominational lines are hosting a clergy Zoom virtual town hall meeting to urge ministers to hold virtual worship services during this pandemic and to honor proper protocol.

Joining them will be Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who earlier this week echoed a similar plea—for clergy not to hold in-house worship service.

In issuing a Tweet earlier today, Rev. Jackson made this appeal: “Churches, convey this message to your members, please. Whether playing or praying, working or worshipping, inmates or prison guards; COVID-19, the killer dwells in congestion. It loves crowds. Let’s honor physical distancing. Choose life over death. Shelter & pray at home.”

With African Americans being 72 percent of those who died from COVID-19 in Chicago, though they make up a third of the city’s population in a city that is 49 percent white and 30 percent black, Rev. Jackson issued a Tweet earlier today appealing to churches not to hold in-person church services during this pandemic.

Others joining the town hall meeting will be Pastor Michael Eaddy, People’s Church of the Harvest Church God in Christ, Bishop Larry Trotter, Sweet Holy Spirit, Father Michael L. Pfleger, Saint Sabina, Presiding Apostle Carl White, Victory Christian International Ministries, and members of the100 Churches Connected to speak in unity about the dangers of holding in-place worship services.
