If you don't know, Atherton, Ca is considered one of the wealthiest and most expensive neighborhoods in the United States. So it's no surprise why residents there may oppose a new Affordable Housing project.

Stephen & Ayesha Curry have written a letter expressing their concern for their families "safety and privacy" if the construction of a “low-income housing” id approved. The Currys concern is the new development is positioned directly behind their $30 million California mansion.

In the letter written on Jan 18, Dailymail reports the couple stated:

“As Atherton residents, we have been following along with the housing element updates with special interest in the 23 Oakwood property,” they wrote.

“We hesitate to add to the 'not in our backyard' (literally) rhetoric, but we wanted to send a note before today's meeting,” the Curry's continued. “Safety and privacy for us and our kids continues to be our top priority and one of the biggest reasons we chose Atherton as home.”

The Curry's did attempt to find common ground with the proposed development by suggesting the developer invest in "taller fencing and landscaping to block the sight lines onto" the families property.

The Currys purchased this property in 2019. The proposed development would be situated on an empty 1.52-acre lot just behind the Golden State Warrior star's home. The three-story home is positioned at the end of a long driveway that is not visible from the street.

Additionally, the current proposal comes as the city council of Atherton attempts to adhere to California's newly launched affordable housing initiative. The Atherton City council will have a final vote on the proposed development today, Tuesday January 31st.

Can you blame the Curry's for raising concerns over their family's safety and security?
