Toronto Awarded 2026 WNBA Expansion

According to ESPN, it has now been confirmed that the WNBA is on track for its 2026 franchise expansion. While it's still in its final stages Canada will have an official announcement for the Toronto Team on May 23rd.

"We continue to engage in productive conversations with interest ownership groups in numbers of markets and granting for any expansion teams requires a vote of the WNBA and NBA Board of Governors," a WNBA Spokesperson stated. If considered Toronto would be the first WNBA team outside of the United States, and owned by Toronto Billionaire Larry Tanebaum.

Other cities for possible expansion included Philadelphia, Denver, South Florida, and Portland.
