Kid Cudi told Esquire recently that when he went into rehab in 2016, he suffered a scary health issue. Cudi posted on his Facebook at the time that was taking a few weeks to deal “depression and suicidal urges.” Two weeks in, he suffered a stroke. The rapper says that in the months after his stroke, his speech and movement were slow. “Everything was f**ked,” he recalled.
It would take Cudi several months of physical therapy before he started feeling more like himself. The artist said he didn’t feel totally recovered until 2017 when he read with Michael Cera for a role in the Broadway play “Lobby Hero.”
While he didn't end up getting the role, he got something else: “I proved to myself that I could do it," he shares. "I needed that at the time, I was happy. Like, damn, my brain is still strong. I didn’t lose something in that s**t that happened.”
