UPDATE: Early reports on Thursday morning now indicate that the deceased victim was found inside her mother's apartment on the 3700-block of West 13th Street. A neighbor decided to check on the children in the apartment when the 2-year-old knocked on the door and asked for food. 

Not long after the infant, now identified as Lamya Hampton, was pronounced dead, her 25-year-old mother was was stopped in a Jeep Cherokee about two blocks away from the apartment and taken into custody for child abandonment and endangerment. 


A seven-month-old girl was found in a car seat when police were called to the 3700-block of West 13th Street Wednesday afternoon. The baby was found wearing a snow suit.

Reports don't indicate whether the car seat was found inside or outside of a residence but the child was immediately tranferred to Mt. Sinai Hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

Two other children ages 2 and 6, were also transported to the hospital but are reportedly in stable condition. 

Expect a full police investigation to follow.
