Chicago born singer/actress Jennifer Hudson made a hometown appearance on Wednesday at a school supply giveaway where she talked to local reporters.

According to DNAinfo, J-Hud is working to have her former home in Englewood (pictured below) -- the site of the grisly murders of her mother, brother and nephew -- turned into a shelter for local women.

"We still own the home and I would like to turn it into a shelter for women as soon as possible or by my mother's birthday, which is Nov. 7," Julia Hudson, Jennifer's sister, told the local news website.

However, the family has not started working with the city or any social services on the transformation yet.
